Dr. Megill brings to his work a unique combination of sound theoretical grounding (M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from Yale University, study in Germany at the Universities of Mainz and Berlin, and residence at the National Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary) and practical organizational work (Changing the Work culture of the United States Air Force, organizing 8,000 faculty and professional employees in Florida, serving as the first professional records manager for the US government agency administering national banks, developing a master's degree program in integrated information resources management for federal employees, and co-owning a small business in Washington, DC.
He is a fully qualified knowledge manager, with education, training and experience in content management and first-hand familiarity with the relevant technologies used to manage knowledge. He is a problem slover - an analyst with practical skills and experience to guide organizations through the transition to the knowledge age.
He is, at bottom, a leader and teacher who excels in working with organizations and people to make technology an empowering tool. He believes -- and practices - the basic principles of successful technological advancement:
1. Business needs must drive technology, not the other way around.
2. We must do more than simply do dumb things faster.
He is a certified records manager, a certified archivist, and a master of library science as well as a doctor of philosophy.
He is presently working on his fifth book, Thinking for a Living. Work Transformation in the Knowledge Age, accepted for publication by K.G. Saur (A Gale/Thomson Learning Company).
