All Medicaid medical directors are encouraged to come to Washington, D.C. for the Fall Workshop! Mark your calendars now!
Besides networking and idea sharing, the planning committee is considering several topics for substantive sessions. In addition to further discussion coverage decision-making, possible topic include: data sharing and benchmarking, care management/risk management, ER overutilization rates, preferred drug lists, childhood obesity and anti-psychotic drug use. The planning committee will finalize the agenda soon, so any feedback that you have now would be greatly appreciated. Please send any topic suggestions or format ideas to Amanda Brodt at amanda.brodt@academyhealth.org.
Open portions of the National Association of State Medicaid Directors (NASMD) Fall meeting will be held on November 14-15th in nearby Crystal City, VA. While NASMD has yet to decide on their final agenda several likely topics may be of special interest to Medical directors. Possible session topics include: Pay-for-Performance, State DRA Innovations and Benefit Design, and Health Information Technology: MMIS & MITA. The NASMD meeting adjourns at 12:15pm on Wednesday, November 15th and the Medicaid Medical Directors’ Learning Network meeting begins at 1:45pm. Participants will have time to travel from one location to the other.
A formalized agenda is forthcoming…
On Tuesday, September 19th we will be holding a network conference call to discuss state initiatives to address ER overutilization rates. Members will be given the opportunity to send in discussion questions ahead of time, and we will look toward fellow colleagues and a possible resource person to dissect the major challenges and highlight innovative solutions. The next Medicaid Messenger will provide an agenda and further call-in instructions.
