The Medicaid Medical Directors’ Learning Network
The Medicaid Medical Directors’ Learning Network is designed to assist the clinical leaders of one of the nation’s largest, publicly-funded health care programs in identifying and applying the latest research findings and related information to address high priority policy and program issues, especially related to quality assurance, quality improvement, and coverage decisions. Network participation is intended for full-time state employees serving in the role of medical director or consultant physicians serving in a leadership role that advises the Medicaid director, for one or more component of a Medicaid or SCHIP program administered by a State, territory, or the District of Columbia. (Some States may have multiple persons serving in these capacities, such as in larger States that split managed care and fee-for-service programs). The network will enable Medicaid Medical Directors to:
- Exchange ideas with their peers and foster a community that encourages colleagues to gather ideas and share experiences with one another;
- Gain access to resources, such as studies, reports, and decision-support tools developed by State Medicaid agencies, AHRQ, and other sources; and
- Foster collaboration to solve problems by working together on issues related to advancing the health of Medicaid enrollees.
Medicaid Medical Directors The Medicaid Medical Directors oversee the Learning Network and facilitate its activities. A planning committee, comprised of Medicaid Medical Directors from around the country, agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and NASMD guides the development of the network and determines the foci of network activities. Network activities, including conference calls, webcasts, and face-to-face meetings, bring together a group of peers to discuss and prioritize their problems and exchange their own craft knowledge about "best" or promising practices and research findings. This password-protected extranet is designed to further assist members in exchanging ideas and gathering resources for their quality improvement activities.
- The Learning Network Members page provides the most current contact information and background history for all the medical directors active in network or previously identified by this effort.
- The Discussion Forum offers the opportunity for members to dialogue online, posting implementation questions and vetting approaches before the larger group.
- The Conferences and Meetings page contains a calendar of upcoming national and regional meetings related to quality improvement, quality assurance and coverage decisions, as well as a schedule of Learning Network activities and November’s kick-off meeting agenda and powerpoint presentations.
- The Projects page offers members a current snapshot of the activities being pursued by fellow medical directors for the purpose of network-wide dissemination.
- Research and Resources provides members with a searchable index of federal and State and local materials on a wide variety of germane topics.
